Four Runners Embark on a 23-Day Challenge to Support Pediatric Cancer Patients

Mumbai, India – A team of four dedicated runners, Mr. Kumar Ajwani, Mr. Haridasan Nair, Mr. Girish Shetty, and Mrs. Reshma Girish Shetty, is set to embark on a remarkable endurance run from Mumbai to Mangalore, starting on February 14, 2025. This extraordinary journey aims to raise funds for Tapasya Palliative Care Centre and spread awareness about childhood cancer being curable.

Among the four, Girish Shetty and Reshma Girish Shetty, a husband-wife duo, are attempting to set a new world record by becoming the first couple to achieve this feat. They will be running 23 consecutive marathons of 42.195 km each, covering an astounding 970 km over 23 days. Their journey will conclude in Mangalore on March 8, 2025.

During the Run the four Runners will be covering every city and town giving presentations to Banks, Colleges, Various service organisations like Lions International, Rotary International, District Administrators etc…creating awareness by spreading the message of Childhood Cancer is Curable.

Today more than 50000 children are treated for cancer in india. If detected in early stage more than 80% will be cured and achieve their dreams in life. No child should be denied treatment for lack of financial support.

Tapasya , which has been actively supporting pediatric cancer patients for the last five years, is currently building a free Palliative Care Centre for terminally ill cancer patients, including a dedicated pediatric care facility. The world class infrastructure is with 60000 SqFt with 51 beds of which 25000 SqFt will be fully functional by April 2025 which is with special wards with 13 beds exclusively for pediatric cancer patients. The palliative care is completely free for every terminally ill cancer patients with no descrimination on caste creed gender.

Tapasya is already rendering free home care and inpatient services in a temporary ward of an ayurvedic hospital and have looked after 82 patients in the last 10 months.

The Tapasya Free Palliative Care Centre is the 2nd Centre in Karnataka State and only the 6th in india. The infrastructure will have all the facilities to give dignity to the patients in their last stage of their life.

IDFC FIRST Bank Mumbai to Mangalore Run run serves as a significant step in raising funds and awareness for this noble cause, reinforcing the message that childhood cancer is curable with the right treatment and care.

“We are running not just for the challenge but for a cause that is close to our hearts,” said Mr. Girish Shetty. “Through this initiative, we want to ensure that no child suffering from cancer is left without hope and the necessary care.”

In this run the husband and wife couple Girish Shetty and Reshma Girish Shetty will be creating a World Record by becoming the first couple to run 23 full Marathons in 23 consecutive days.
